the mod itself is in the gray area on the Minecraft EULA but they probably claimed they sell cosmetics like a server would and that a mojang employee confirmed their interpretation
Essential Mod isn’t even open source (it’s only source-available) You aren’t even legally allowed to make a modified fork of it, recreate the API backend or remove the insane amount of microtransactions the mod has
I think i can go ever higher than that
