I have feelings about this upcoming "Ask to browse" feature.
I get it. There's all sorts of things on the web that you don't want your kids to encounter.
But lots of parents are going to toggle that thing on, and then all those kids will grow up inside Apple's Walled Garden. Apps only.
Wait the EU is not okay with Apple giving themselves a 18 month head start? Shouldn't Apple get a fair chance to lock in users into Siri AI before the competition has a chance to, you know, compete?!
The DMA simply requires Apple to give competing AI systems the same access that Apple has. So everything they list here is what Siri AI has access to, or they wouldn't be required to share that access.
Tomorrow! #cssday
So, according to Apple itself, Siri AI...
* has nearly unlimited access to a user’s device
* the ability to act on that access autonomously without a user’s ongoing visibility and control
...without that Trusted System Agent, because that's going to take ~18 months to roll out.
On my way to Amsterdam for #cssday
"Ultimately, Apple is playing a big game of chicken with Europe."
Apple is running a PR campaign against the EU, and we need more articles like this one.
