Large subfossil log sampled in the Trient Glacier lateral moraine last year and just tree ring dated to the 1285/86 CE winter! 🧊🌲💍
Means that the Medieval early-LIA advance has reached the level of late-LIA (eg 19th c.) as we already show elsewhere in the Alps (journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....)

Argentière serac ice cliff gazes huge recent ice loss! 🧊🔥
Thinking that back in 2009, both parts of the glacier were still connected!
Now the serac no longer feeds the lower body, which sags at an incredible speed!
A monumental natural amphitheatre, soon entirely de-icing because of us 🤮
The year before the hole appeared in Bossons (here 10th Sept 2022), it still retained its incredible and endless tongue spreading across the valley! 😍
A vision that gave me goosebumps every time! 🤍
Now lost forever.

We just out fom the longest May period with average temperature >2°C (5 days) at Aiguille du Midi (3842 m asl), a threshold for cryospheric change at high elevation glaciers! 🏔️🔥
