here's the thing about how people talk about solidarity: people refer to it through the lines of community obligation. but there is no community, none, & so obligation is never fulfilled. it is not an obligation. solidarity only exists *at* the point where it is made out of free will.

question for those who work outside of academia: is your preeminent trade publication almost singlemindedly devoted to destroying your profession, or is that just a thing for us?
My essay “Weathering the Comic Storm: On Being Trans and Funny” is now published! I think about how transmisogyny works by participating in a stand-up comedy scene philpapers.org/rec/MARWTC-9
i do find it really funny that everyone transhistoricizes cis genders ([cis] man/woman) and heterosexuality and homosexuality but it's transfemininity specifically that has this bizarre burden and discourse of being a frame that one "should not" transhistoricize
I think that the ceiling of what many trans studies scholars can achieve with their work is to shadowbox in The Archive, largely b/c so much of humanities academia is both full of 1) proxy fights over what "materialism" means, & 2) competitive pressures to be more materialister than your peers
might need someone in 100 years to do a dissertation in Materialism Studies on the series of dueling personally-gender-affirming materialisms that constituted late 20th-mid 21st century academic trans studies discourse
