We argue that Burnham's victory shows what can happen when appeals aren't primarily about ideology, but 'valence'; bridging issues where left and right bloc voters both feel disillusioned (the economy).
Burnham takes this 'valence' into Westminster but he'll have an uphill challenge to maintain it.
