noticed the Vertical Tabs extension using 20% cpu so:
turned on chrome://flags for vertical tabs!
* much more information dense! ❤️
* collapsible / icon only mode!
* much less cpu usage!
* also has pretty good search!

there's a ton of approaches that will work fine here, with reading children, updating other children.
but the lack of discussion makes this all so suspect. there's so few guide-stones out here.
i feel so much like Shadow DOM shouldn't be for most people, adds enormous complexity even as it makes boundaries explicit.
it's quite weird to me that Light DOM has so few write-ups for it though. often we do need to accept children but also then adorn or decorate what we are showing. so, how?
