One of the current scams targeting writers is to send an e-mail that appears to be from a real editor, full of gushing (LLM-generated) praise for one of their books. There are a couple of very specific tells I want to flag for the vulnerable.
A text can come across as “messagey” or preachy if it’s focused on the message at the expense of storytelling craft. Many of the books I’ve worked on have a message but they don’t come across as “message-y” because the storytelling elements such as character development & arc are prioritized. 4/5

Hoping someone can help me out: I am remembering a book (but not sure if it was published or not) about a mortuarian who discovers her new boss is a vampire and she lives in a town of supernatural creatures. Any one know what book I might be remembering? Definitely an adult title.
