One of my jobs the past week was trying to “land the plane” and time out the #XPNCountdown to end around 6p-ish today - this is my worksheet as I was scheduling (and rescheduling) each day, adding hours as needed, artist interviews, and trying to have it all time out. Who needs a computer?
Check this out friends of @wxpnfm.bsky.social
You know what’s wild that I can share now with y’all? 16 different covers of Love Will Tear Us Apart got votes, none made #xpncountdown - same with 15 versions of I’m on Fire, 14 God Only Knows, 12 Wicked Games, 11 Purple Rains, 10 Enter Sandmans… lot of great songs, no definitive cover! xpn.org
As we hurtle towards the Top 100 on this last day of the #XPNCountdown, I can verify that Mike V is going to talk to 2 artists who have songs in the Top 100 and Dan Reed will hear from an artist in the Top 10. But who? And when? And about what songs? Keep listening! xpn.org
I think the last time @wxpnfm.bsky.social played @metallica.com twice in an hour was when @somevelvetblog.bsky.social took us Metal on April Fools Day 2023. @kristenkurtis.bsky.social is ROCKING this #XPNCountdown morning!
This is the ultimate slow build jam. I remember having my mind blow first time hearing Prince cover Radiohead. Wonder what Thom Yorke’s reaction was to hearing it? From Coachella 2008 to #838 on the 885 Greatest Covers #XPNCountdown youtu.be/NFXZNt4oLkE?...
I must admit - this one was new to me when it showed up in your list #878 - The Wonder Who (aka The Four Seasons) and their interpretation of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice.” First of many uses of the word BONKERS this week as we roll thru the 885… youtu.be/7EEYic_bjFI?...
Here we go! #885 and we are off - Yes, We Can Can play 885 amazing crowd sourced covers over the next 8 days at @wxpnfm.bsky.social #xpncpuntdown

It's on!!! The #XPNCountdown has begun with song #885 - a cover of "Yes We Can Can" by the Pointer Sisters, written by Allen Toussaint, and first released by Lee Dorsey in 1970. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wckS...
