World’s largest metro system finally accepts its status.
Scotland! Here’s an option!
This. I also fear Palantir own the ontologies that describe how each NHS Trust's data model maps onto the NHS Canonical Data Model. Nice looking lock-in you've got there, vendor. Grrr.
I love this. Unmute.
“People with jobs and prospects don’t burn down their neighbours’ homes.” Last week’s Belfast riots weren’t really about immigration. They were about something the headline employment figures have been hiding for years. 1/8🧵 sluggerotoole.com/2026/06/17/d...
Lidl in the Netherlands going 100% electricity trucks from next year. "it helps keep prices low"
This is a fascinating thread, and I feel for the academic who has been made to feel useless by AI. But what I don't understand, for anyone using AI in an academic setting, is the lack of references and citations. If you use AI refer to it as you would any other source. Log your prompts/responses.

This is a good step forward for wave power. Also can't help wondering if installing a bunch of these in near-shore fish nurseries would help with conservation. www.ecoticias.com/en/spain-jus...

Impressive real-world numbers of EDF 🇫🇷 (with its smart charging subsidiary DREEV) for charging a fleet of electric waste collection trucks: 10 MWh of charging for 10 trucks, at a cost of minus €129, by collecting otherwise wasted energy and providing grid support

Spain’s 138-foot wave-power buoy shows how ocean motion could send clean electricity ashore.
Spain just put a wave-power buoy about 138 feet tall into the Bay of Biscay, and the twist is that the new tests suggest the ocean’s up-and-down motion can feed electricity to shore in a way that coul...
Dear Friends and Colleagues - an update, as promised. Today, I have notified the Rt Hon Ian Murray, Minister of State (Minister for Digital, Government and Data) of my resignation from the roles of Information Commissioner, and Chair of the Information Commission, effective immediately. Since February of this year I have been the subject of an investigation. While I have not agreed with how that investigation has been conducted, I accept that my position has become untenable. From the time the investigation was launched, I have accepted that there have been occasions where I exercised poor judgement and made attempts at humour that were inappropriate and caused offence. It is for this reason that I have decided that it is appropriate that I resign from my position. I do not wish to be a distraction to the ICO’s important work. The rapid advancement of technology presents enormous opportunities, but it must be safe and accessible for everyone. Unfortunately, that is not always the reality. As technology continues to evolve, and the AI tsunami breaks over us, we must redouble, and continuously adapt our collective efforts to ensure safety, accountability, and trust online. No single organisation or country can address these challenges alone. Collaboration domestically and internationally between regulators and policymakers is critical to ensure societies can enjoy the benefits of innovation safely and equitably. I am proud to have worked alongside dedicated staff and partners within the ICO, the wider UK regulatory community and internationally to advance those shared objectives. While I will no longer be able to continue this work in my current role, my commitment to the principles, values, and objectives that have guided my professional life remains unchanged. I am proud of the contribution I have made and look forward to continuing to support this important work. I would like to thank colleagues, stakeholders, and supporters for the opportunity to serve in the role of the UK's Information Commissioner, and I wish the organisation every success in the future.

Recently learned (thanks, @hishamzerriffi.bsky.social!) that the BC provincial (public) power utility has set an upper limit of 400 MW for data centres (about a third of the output of a major hydroelectric project), allocated by a competitive bidding process. news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...

When we are told (glibly) by junior health ministers that the contract with #Palantir for the #NHS #FDP means that we 'own all the data', this is the bit they are fundamentally not understanding: The data STRUCTURE is riddled with Palantir-specific references. medconfidential.org/2026/critica...

I'm attending a digital humanities event in Montreal. There was a keynote on AI and something about the talk made me wonder if it had been written by Claude. I said as much in the Q&A. As I posed the question, the speaker shifted, looking slightly uncomfortable. What he said next shocked the room +
