I feel like Goodwin is getting a lesson in the fact that, even in hard right politics, you can be either pleasant to work with or good at the job but you do actually need to be one of them. His cardinal error was to be a prickly, thin-skinned arsehole and then lose. No one to blame but himself.

Picked this up on spec from the Imperial War Museum, and it's very good. Occasionally a character feels a like a bit of a trope, and then you remember he wrote it back in 1947; this book is part of the origin story of some of those tropes. Recommended if that's your sort of thing.
It seems that 4321 people have taken time out of their busy lives to leave a review of the Caspian Sea on Google. Intrigued how many people are using this review to choose between the Caspian and alternative bodies of water in the area.
Thread. As with Ukraine and drones, people's military kit actually getting road-tested throws up surprises. Ripples of this a few years down the road will be interesting.
I laughed out loud at this one.
On the face of it, this seems quite bad
Sorry, last post about Goodwin - this is objectively very funny indeed.
At a recent visit to the Cabinet War Rooms I overheard an obviously well-educated liberal American and his teenage son agreeing in a melancholy way that the British Empire was responsible for essentially all of the bad stuff in the world today.
Trying to position himself as the "I was against it from the very beginning" person is the first smart thing Vance has done since he got into the White House

There doesn't seem to be much love lost for Goodwin among his GB News colleagues who seem greatly amused by his being taken apart by @twelves.bsky.social.

In general, anti-British edgelordism as a signal of ostensible leftism is really fucking weird. Like the British Empire, which stopped being a thing when my grandparents were tiny children, is the current imperial menace worth fighting and all British people are personally responsible for it.

China’s “Carrier Killer” has failed spectacularly in Iran. Real-world combat has exposed a massive gap between Beijing's marketing and battlefield reality. The CM-302, long touted as a superpower weapon, just hit a wall. 📉 #MilitaryTech #China #Iran
