The cynic in me thinks these ideas are great in the abstract, but then when it becomes concrete and is just a map / feed / comment board / whatever it loses its appeal. And fracturing everything will make any single thing harder to gain steam.

The Chicago region's TARP stormwater storage system has a capacity of 11 billion gallons, and sometimes we fill it up after a single storm. So yea, 2.5 billion gallons of water for all of Amazon's global data centers for an entire year is not a lot.

There's something too about connecting it to a local physical presence that feels important to ground the trust somehow too? One cool one i heard recently is - which is "pre" agent era but definitely in the same vein: www.trashpeople.org It feels like it's in the zeitgeist
