The Chicago region's TARP stormwater storage system has a capacity of 11 billion gallons, and sometimes we fill it up after a single storm. So yea, 2.5 billion gallons of water for all of Amazon's global data centers for an entire year is not a lot.

"2.5 billion gallons" sounds like a lot but is about 2 tenths of 1% of the amount of water (approx 5 million acre-feet per year) used to grow almonds just in California. www.c-win.org/cwin-water-b...

Amazon said its global data-center operations withdrew about 2.5 billion gallons of water in 2025, as data center companies around the world face growing scrutiny over the environmental impact of artificial intelligence.
