Honestly I think they are afraid of setting a precedent of understanding that our choice to build city streets as high speed thoroughfares is inextricably linked to gun and car violence that plagues the city (and the whole country) because they’re scared of that they’ll have to address it city wide.

None of this information was passed on to Wilson by the previous mayor or SDOT during the transition. I heard that this legislation was drafted by Harrell originally but abandoned sometime last fall and never communicated to any of the council. Maybe @cmeddielin.bsky.social can confirm.
