If traffic calming, diverters, and other street interventions are demonstrated to work for Aurora, and we allow some statistics to be collected, does the city become partially responsible for every excess death that occurs in/on other similarly situated arterial and its neighborhoods?
I reported a car parked on the sidewalk and when I passed it 45 minutes later it was moved to legal parking. Dunno if they got a ticket or if the parking enforcement actually knocked on the door to ask them to move (seems likely) but either way success.
At the moment they can blame individual neighborhoods for their crime and slyly blame it on the demographics in those neighborhoods or people’s choices there. They have a lot of incentive to continue to not understand that it’s systemic and based on the city’s design and transportation priorities.
Honestly I think they are afraid of setting a precedent of understanding that our choice to build city streets as high speed thoroughfares is inextricably linked to gun and car violence that plagues the city (and the whole country) because they’re scared of that they’ll have to address it city wide.

Still doing well with cargo bike dog rides. We’ve been mainly going to parks other than the one next door to home so she associates cargo bike with fun park visits. Still prefers to stand so she can have her head all the way forward. (Also: Shameful lack of access ramps at Highland Park Playground)
