The Ivory Gull is an endangered species in Canada... and even though we think of the Yukon being in the north, it usually stays well north of the territory, scavenging Polar Bear kills and suchlike. Thanks to Cameron Eckert and Pam Sinclair for finding this fantastic bird!
It's not a competition (ha!), but this participation (based on number of checklists) is about 7 times greater per capita than that in British Columbia and about 70 times greater than that in Ontario!
Yukon birders were out in force yesterday, participating in #GlobalBigDay. Despite snow piling down in the morning (in Whitehorse, at least), they recorded 107 species on 133 separate checklists! The last species of the day was a Boreal Owl heard singing at 11:51 pm! #birds
