I shall watch this with interest. There's no way to get 60% of kids actively travelling to school without disrupting current patterns of car-based mobility. This includes making all urban streets safer, not just those right outside schools www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
play streets are social infrastructure, pass it on!
Violet Stannard was standing on the pavement just outside Durham train station when she was struck by a small van. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e... This is just one of 7 articles about different crashes, deaths or deliberate acts of violence involving a car on the local paper's home page.

Already had my first two players, on their way to school - one helped me fill in the last empty box with “Strike a Pose” 🕺🏻
Nice playground thread from @presentcorrect.bsky.social - 🛝 🐌 🐘
This is great story about a son finding his mum’s poem in his exam, but especially on #InternationalDayofPlay that the poem celebrates the moments of joy and connection that doorstep play - as banal as pavement chalking - can create for families and communities. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
It’s International Day of Play. All through lockdowns, I created hopscotches and playful paths outside our house - we’re moving out tomorrow so it seemed doubly fitting to do one last trail. With thanks to @playfulanywhere.bsky.social for the chalk (all mine is already packed) and the play nudge.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Play is: “Protect play, protect childhood”. As UNICEF says, “the theme is a reminder for all of us – governments, businesses, schools and families – that happy and healthy childhoods are built on play.”
