The other linked study is just Huffington Post article comments in the mid 2010s. The one I quoted above is a German site 2010-2013. I think external validity, measurement, and research design would all prevent me from making sweeping claims about this topic
I think anonymous forums can be among the most vicious places on the net and even on bsky there’s an extremely noticeable phenomenon where nameless faceless accounts seem to exist solely to leave angry replies
