Great news for lovers of community radio. Today, UTS (in Sydney) confirmed they'll commit to ongoing funding for 2SER-FM. It's in a diminished form, so there's more work to be done, but it survives. WOO HOOO Thank you for all your support so far. Go independent media!

"Why aren't people going to concerts or watching movies or buying video games or having kids? BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY!"
There's a very specific late-capitalist archetype here: trust fund kids building personal brands around 'startup culture', hustle aesthetic, vapourware SaaS ideas, dropshipping, and performative antics aimed squarely at younger audiences who imagine themselves one lucky app away from escape velocity
This man is unreal. The next fucking day he shows up on network access TV to reference a thing he did 11 years ago? Legend.

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline.
“Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet.
Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming.
Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”
Oh ffs "officers being distributed to train stations to target the SUPPLY of drugs" What absolute horseshit. How many major drug dealers travel by the suburban train network?
We've had years to get up to speed with charging infrastructure in Oz. And yet we're woefully behind, particularly on major highways that carry holiday traffic & in many regional areas. The question is why? Has there been pressure from fossil fuel interests NOT to roll it out?
Public broadcasting is more vital than ever. And Colbert is the best.
Absolute broadcasting legend.

2SER is a goddamn cultural institution!
Katharine Hayhoe
The 46-year-old Sydney community radio institution was facing closure after around half its core funding was withdrawn late last year by Macquarie University.
An appreciation of Barret Hansen -- better known as Dr. Demento -- who recently ended the weekly show he hosted for 55 years.

The fact that UTS is even considering defunding 2SER-FM, & contemplating its demise, looks even more absurd when you read about community radio's massive benefits.

For #EVs to truly go mainstream, #Australia needs more public “kerbside” chargers. These can be microwave-sized boxes mounted to power poles or slightly larger boxes fixed to the kerb.
One start-up founder who helped spread viral memes about capital gains tax reforms says the campaign was aimed at attracting attention after the budget, and not necessarily focused on accuracy.
