Just a reminder that these are the places Republicans argue should replace the Planned Parenthood clinics their policies are shuttering. This story also comes at the same time that multiple states are passing bills to ban the regulation of crisis pregnancy centers 🤡
A Texas woman nearly died after a crisis pregnancy center missed her ectopic pregnancy. The staff there said it's not their problem, though, because the ultrasound was “for educational purposes only.” www.dallasnews.com/business/hea...
So which is it: are CPCs legitimate health centers that can replace Planned Parenthood, or are they non-medical centers that just dole out ultrasounds for funsies?
National Review accuses me of lying about the rise in maternal mortality since the end of Roe: "It turns out that maternal mortality rates declined in 2024 according to the CDC." You absolute fucking tools, that's *national data*—take a look at what's happening in states where abortion is banned
Anyway, consider subscribing to my newsletter if you don't already - I've been tracking this story for months and will have more tonight jessica.substack.com
This is exactly why we need every major outlet to hire dedicated repro reporters - and why I publish Abortion, Every Day. We are *fucked* if our gov't can label IUDs and the pill "abortion" and the nation's biggest papers don't think that's worth writing about
I started covering this last year, and I can't overstate how important this is: the Trump administration officially labeled some of the most commonly-used forms of birth control as 'abortion' jessica.substack.com/i/173447780/...
It takes SIXTEEN paragraphs for the New York Times to mention why the administration wanted to destroy nearly $10 million in contraception: It's because they claim the stockpile of IUDs, birth control pills, and hormonal implants are “abortifacient birth control.” www.nytimes.com/2026/03/26/w...
This wasn't some random mistake: both the State Department and USAID called the contraceptives 'abortion'. And when international groups tried to buy the stockpile so it wouldn’t be destroyed, the administration refused, citing the Global Gag Rule. A policy that prevents U.S. funding FOR ABORTION
