Such a pleasant gift to receive just before the holidays. Absolutely taken aback to read a review of my book written by one of the leading scholars in the field of northern history and a champion of academic scholarship. Thank you, Ken Coates, for your deep and meaningful reflections on my book.
Have some free time over the next two days? Attend the 2026 virtual conference of the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine (CSHM/SCHM)! I had the pleasure of organizing the conference and building the online platform with a fantastic group of colleagues. event.fourwaves.com/cshm-schm-20...

I think northern security and defence are civil-military challenges that require cooperation among residents and government alike. If drones or any other tech are to be successfully adopted, it won’t just be the military alone. More resources are needed to support northern communities, either way.
A real pleasure speaking with @theseangraham.bsky.social about the history of military R&D and medical research ethics in post-1945 Canada. More in the book, Frontier Science, but a good intro to the topic for all those interested.

Such a great review that covers and critiques my entire book. The insights are worth reflecting on for current and future histories of the Cold War sciences in Canada and beyond. Thanks very much for the platform @nichecanada.bsky.social and the review @tinaadcock.bsky.social

As John says, the deadline for abstracts is January 1, and we're looking forward to your submissions! This volume will explore how ethics can be re-engaged as a living, contested, and transformative force in the study of conflict. More information is available through the link:
