Manny Machado isn't a Maryland native, but he is a future Orioles Hall of Famer -- and he also just went deep in this one. Machado leads off the 9th inning with a home run that extends Padres' lead to 9-3. It was his 5th homer in 15 career games vs. Orioles.
Padres RHP Ron Marinaccio was ejected from the game after hitting Orioles' Gunnar Henderson with a pitch with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. San Diego is leading 9-3. Padres manager Craig Stammen later got tossed as well after a long, heated argument with the umpiring crew.
The Orioles have won 3 consecutive games 5 times this season. They still have yet to win 4 in a row.
Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson: “I guess they were trying to get payback, so I guess we're even now.”
Orioles' Pete Alonso is 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs today after this 2-out RBI double in the bottom of the 7th that cut the Padres' lead to 7-3. A season-high-tying 3 hits for the Polar Bear, who also had 3 on both 5/18 at TB and 5/25 vs. TB. This was also his 1st double since 5/18.
Pete Alonso is now hitting .253 with an .810 OPS over 72 games in his 1st season with Orioles. It's the highest his average has been since he was hitting .259 at the end of play on April 3. It's the highest his OPS has been since it sat at .819 at the end of play on April 1.
Orioles lose 9-3 to Padres, who hit season-high 5 home runs today. Trey Gibson was cruising in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but he struggled in both the 1st and 5th (allowing 6 total runs). O's were playing from behind after SD's 4-run 1st. O's (34-38) will go for series win tomorrow.
Taylor Ward’s 63 walks are tied for the 124th most in a season in Orioles history (since 1954). He’s 12 shy of his career high (75 in 2025). The O’s have 90 games to play. Ward is on pace for 141 walks. The Orioles record is 118 (Ken Singleton in 1975).
Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson didn’t think this should have happened after he nearly got hit twice in 7th. “We hit somebody of theirs and obviously weren’t trying to, but it is what it is. You had your opportunity to get it back and they did and missed. So that should have been it.”

It's a good day for Maryland natives on the Padres at Camden Yards. Jackson Merrill (Severna Park) hit a 2-run homer in the 1st. Gavin Sheets (Lutherville) -- who is the son of former Orioles outfielder Larry Sheets -- just hit a solo homer in the 7th. Padres lead 7-2 in 7th.
