First skeet- at the beginning of the year I took on the role of Director of Local News @MacFound. It’s been quite the ride! After a busy week, reflecting on all that was good news this year:

2) We just announced that $20 million in grants to newsrooms, research, and journalism support organizations focused on community-led and serving media. This funding will support their efforts to provide infrastructure + $$ to the newsrooms they serve.

Yes we’ve gone all in on this and broadening our coalition is more important than ever. The WaPo news is a gut punch AND a call to support the community-centered newsrooms emerging in these moments of crisis.

1) We partnered with Press Forward and our peers in the pooled fund, distributing $20 million to 205 small newsrooms nationwide. 📣 With our friends at Press Forward Chicago, we were part of the effort to get $1.6m to 13 newsrooms in our hometown.

3) We flew the proverbial plane and built it at the same time—while grantmaking, we developed a Local News strategy that will guide our work moving forward through 2028. The board just approved our plan, so we're all systems go. 🚀
