Colemanite is one of those transparent to white borates with crystals of exceptional purity, formed by evaporation in ancient large lakes. Here, the pure crystals cascade like sharp waves across this large specimen.

Chrysotile is one of the main types of asbestos, and the photo of a fracture on this specimen clearly shows the mineral’s fibrous nature, and all those tiny fibres just waiting to find their way into our lungs.

Magnesioferrite is a highly magnetic iron and magnesium oxide. It forms as a perfect tetrahedron, but I only have this mass formation in my systematic collection.

Yellow uranocircite is, as its name suggests, a uranium mineral. I couldn’t increase the magnification any further to try and capture the pretty little crystals, but this yellow patch reminds me of the eye of an ancient creature hidden within the rock.

Todorokite is a very soft manganese oxide that occurs in a variety of forms. On this specimen, it forms stalagmites that are difficult to photograph. Its bronze colour is fascinating.
And sometimes, it pseudomorphs from mushrooms!
