Yeah, this. "Use the proper channels" is ever and only those in power shifting things back to their terrain when they're losing on another. It's the political tactical equivalent of demanding you run into a line of machine guns.

Governments and the powerful in general will use their opponents behaving imperfectly to justify draconian crackdowns.
There is simply no benefit or good reason to play along with that strategy if you oppose what the government is doing.
