Look on the bright side folks, not only is Doctor Who still in production, we'll be getting a full 26-episode series for the first time since 1982. Roll on 2027!
Reading between the lines of RTD's post, I can only assume that the Christmas Special was just a placeholder to keep the fans sweet until the BBC made their decision. Presumably the three words he gave to DWM were just thrown in to keep the pretence going (and maintain that particular tradition).

Channel 4 are currently repeating the 1966 World Cup Final In Colour in aid of Alzheimers Society, a very worthy cause.
What a shame then that the picture looks like ass: awful skin tones, Day-Glo shirts and pitch, the end result a smeary soft mess because the cameras are in constant movement.
