Would you DARE 😱 to get a TATTOO of your target molecule before you’ve made it?
Moheb, you brought energy and passion into this project. It wasn’t the tattoo that made it happen, but it symbolizes your spirit to never give up! Congrats!!

Oxford Chemistry electrolyte research in Quad
Research led by @paul-mcgonigal.bsky.social, featured in Oxford’s alumni magazine Quad, reveals new state-independent electrolytes with solid-state, liquid-like ion transport.

For this organic charge carrier, conductivity is more than just a phase! @paul-mcgonigal.bsky.social and team devised a clever new material that keeps ions flowing in more-ordered states of matter, thanks to diffused charges and a lil ordered chaos:

By combining weak ionic interactions and flexible molecular design, we created “state-independent electrolytes” that conduct just as efficiently across three phases of matter.
The work was led by PhD students Juliet Barclay and Jack Williamson. Congratulations to the team!

When liquids freeze, ions normally grind to a halt — but not in our new materials!
Our latest paper in @science.org shows how organic salts can keep the same ionic conductivity mechanism as they transform from liquid to solid.
