So, it's ended up difficult for me to go next week...BUT, I can assign the Platinum Pass to someone else. I've asked our existing writers too, but if you know a good writer not already covering SXSW London 2026 who might be keen to for @takeonecinema.net, point them to me; jim[@]takeonecinema[.]net.
This film is not as bad as you remember, until it's suddenly *just as bad as you remember*. New edition of '@takeonecinema.net presents...'!
TERMINATOR GENISYS starts really well with a really promising premise that will reset this stale franchise. Then it proceeds to do everything in the same way as previous entries in the franchise.

TERMINATOR GENISYS: a film with a promising start that falls off a cliff. @simonxix.com & @jimgr.bsky.social discuss planning for a trilogy without making a successful film, how turning Skynet into consumer tech impacts the narrative's politics, & why ‘Genisys’ is spelled that way.
“Despite its allegory that is as blatant as an audience might expect, THE GOOD BOY packs in a surprising amount of affecting moments, and the knowledge England’s Good Boys can only be raised by Good Systems.” - Katherine Stockton reviews. #filmsky

“HEN merely enables the viewer to take comfort that, although they may not have yet gone vegan, at least they've likely never chucked a living chicken off the roof of a building for their art.” - Jessie Krahn reviews. #filmsky
“BACKROOMS is an eerily realised creative vision, but it’s difficult to escape the idea that it takes a suboptimal turn away from the technical strengths that give this adaptation such a firm footing.” - @jimgr.bsky.social reviews. #filmsky
“The vapidity of MICHAEL is all the more irritating given the allusions and nods it makes to the things that shaped all facets of Jackson’s life, image, and creative vision. The film is bland at best and cowardly at worst.” - @jimgr.bsky.social reviews. #filmsky
“If cinema is to survive as a community experience, we need to value and protect places like the Ultimate Picture Palace in Oxford, now in the middle of a campaign to secure its long-term future.” - read more and join the campaign for @uppcinema.bsky.social.

“Performances and occasional wit cannot save KÖLN 75 from being baffling and trying. Unlike the real concert, this film squanders what could be a great premise on a too-neat feel-good story.” - @carmenchloie.bsky.social reviews. #filmsky
Simon and Jim enter the modern era of Terminator films with TERMINATOR GENISYS directed by Alan Taylor, a film with a promising start that goes on to absolutely fall off a cliff. They discuss the…

Cackling at apparently getting a SXSW London 2026 press pass so late after applications opened that I can't guarantee I can actually go now.
