I admit to liking the Wheel of Time at the age of 13 and you think I'm gonna lie about Star Wars for street cred on the least trafficked text-based microblogging platform on the internet?
I may end up locking down replies for a while because why are you coming into my mentions to accuse me of lying about whether I liked The Phantom Menace at age 13.
My three year-old destroyed one of his board books and on the one hand it's bad to destroy books and I need to discourage that but on the other hand it was the book that most annoyed me to read to him, so.
Yeah I feel like 13 is prime Star Wars age. I was reading Ender's Game, the Wheel of Time, stuff like that. I had grown up watching the original trilogy. I was primed to like The Phantom Menace and I just... didn't.
People always bring up the fight scene and yeah it was technically cool I guess but it kind of felt devoid of meaning because who the fuck even is this guy that they're fighting. We know literally nothing about him. They might as well be fighting a droid.
People have all this revisionist history about The Phantom Menace being good, actually, and that people loved it at the time.
I saw it at 13 after growing up on Star Wars and my most vivid memory is that it was the first time I left a movie trying to talk myself into thinking it was good.
I was *reaching*. Well.... the senate building was cool? I always like Ewan MacGregor? Darth Maul looked cool, I guess?
