Finally had the time and bandwidth to do a new Loremaster’s Corner for @athraplay.athrabeth.com, looking at one small piece of the wacky history of the elves. Long ago, I aspired to make something like This American Life, and this kinda scratches that itch, but, you know, about elves
There’s also a really interesting moment in episode 32 where Moranor is advocating to just find Elerina’s family and get out of town, to let nature and revolution take its course…
If you like horror/comedy Widows Bay is excellent. It feels very much like a modern call of Cthulhu campaign staring some very unqualified investors! It’s both very funny, and very scary.
@itstoriello.bsky.social does such a good job in this arc! Elerina’s shifts between reluctant acceptance, rejection of expectation, and occasional exasperated temper tantrums was so fun to watch! And the best is yet to come!
We’re also walking an interesting line too, since for one of the characters it’s not just a government, but its family. Elerina already has the conflict between freedom and duty, and what better way to pull on that then to tie that choice to the continuation of the only way of life she’s ever known?
Not only is it a monarchy, but because its Elves, it’s potentially a ruler FOREVER. I think that’s a fascinating thing to explore, especially in the context of wider elven culture. It was touched on very briefly in this episode, but what effect does that have on ambition and social movement?
