Something going on with Norfolk Hawkers round us. Yesterday there at least 5 flying around my garden in Cambs and the local nature reserve Ouse Fen is full of them. No Water Soldier I'm aware of.
Indeed. And maybe BBC will learn what a White-tailed Eagle looks like.
I find Nematopogon moths hard to identify but I believe these are N. metaxella @cambsmoths.bsky.social
Plenty of other dragon action around the garden pond today. And a very undistinguished wetland moth Monochroa lucidella in the trap.
Ridiculous birds and wonderful. Black-winged Stilt at Fen Drayton, Cambs today found by @brickert.bsky.social #UKbirding
Biggest surprise of a day on the patch was finding this Tundra Bean Goose at Fen Drayton. Ended the day on 96 species, all within 5 km of home #UKbirding
Norfolk Hawkers are taking over locally. I counted 3 mating pairs and another half dozen along a 30m stretch of ditch today at Ouse Fen. Ditch full of Water Violet. Also my first Red-veined Darter yesterday at Fen Drayton, thanks to @deepseahugh.bsky.social
The hot weather finally lured my moth trap out and I guess I'm not alone in having an exceptional moth catch on Friday night. 415 of 85 species. Double my previous highest count in this week of the year. For 22 of those species it was the earliest in the year I had caught them... 1/
Also some trickier ones. A Dichrorampha which looks like alpinana. And another that I thought was Epinotia bilunana (which I did get 2 of) but I'm not so sure. Any thoughts @cambsmoths.bsky.social ?
The Ross's Gull in Thurrock showed uncredibly well using a tern raft for a while, before it flew off NE at 3:45 #UKbirding

Wildlife on bank notes: the Bank of England’s shortlist is out… Good to see White-tailed eagles on there - perhaps if enough of us vote for them, grouse moor owners will stop killing them? 🤔 @raptorpersuk.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/he...
