When asked who the greatest NASCAR driver of all time was, Bill France would say Lloyd Seay. This is in spite of Seay being murdered six years before the Streamline meetings that formed NASCAR in the first place.
In 1946, Sam Nunis founded the NSCRA in order to try and bring order to stock car racing. He promoted races at Lakewood Speedway in Atlanta, the biggest track in the South and only rivaled by Bill France's Daytona Beach. Ed Samples won a the championship in 1946, followed by Fonty Flock in 1947.
