maybe people don’t think in terms of abstractions and just want better lives. maybe politicians should focus on solving people’s problems. there are good examples of this from both left-coded and centrist-coded politicians across the country.
We should focus less on distributive injustice and more on the fact that this guy has more power over the rest of us than anyone ever should. He's a threat to our freedom and self-determination.
And I often disagree with Marie Gluesenkamp Perez but I think she is very good at understanding what her constituents are struggling with and explaining what she is doing about it. That’s how she won in a pretty conservative district.
I would hazard to guess that Mandani’s success appeal lies less in the Democratic Socialist label and more in his clear understanding of the problems that actually keep people up at night and his relentlessness in reminding people what he’s doing to address them.
One underappreciated benefit of peer review is that it can give us new ideas. I recently had a paper rejected. Not only were the comments helpful for improving the paper; they also alerted me to some research and concepts that I think will be super helpful elsewhere. Thanks, if you're reading this!
