The King's Speech has included the introduction of a bill to enable peerages to be removed.
Always a tricky topic, in 1782 there was a rare attempt by the House of Lords to try to prevent a new peerage being conferred on Lord George Germain as Viscount Sackville. The motion was defeated 61 to 26.
