On this day in 1870, Kiowa leader Tsêñt’àiñ:dè (White Horse) raids Fort Sill, stealing 73 mules. anticolonialhistory.com/event/68/
The killings by members of Ngare Raumati occurred after Marion and his party had stayed more than five weeks. It is likely the French explorers were killed after fishing in a place which had a ban on it.
Accounts of the killings were discussed widely in Europe and changed the perception of Aotearoa away from a place for colonization for some time. Particularly in France, New Zealand was considered not a place to colonize.

"...known for her work in establishing the first American Indian children's wellness center in the San Francisco Bay Area, setting up the health clinic during the Occupation of Alcatraz, and her activism for native American self-determination." (Wikipedia)
