Technically the headlines are accurate insofar as some kind of increase in risk of mental health problems were associated with high use of social media. But the device is in the details and this Rorschach blot of a study reveals a reader's pre-existing beliefs on the topic.
Is this where the "never die" guy realises love is actually bad for our health?
This new social media and adolescent mental health study is unsurprisingly getting lots of coverage and the headlines are a classic example of why science reporting requires nuance and expertise. Only the ABC story presented the complications in the findings.
Also, what is "social media use" here? Seems it was limited to time spent on a small handful of platforms. No YouTube, reddit, discord, roblox or networked gaming counted. So what is even being measured here?

One interesting contrairian reading of this study is that adolescent use of social media is not as harmful as many people suspect. Letting a kid use Instagram or Snapchat for an hour or so a day is actually not particularly deleterious to their mental health. Not as sexy a headline though.
One of my favorite podcasts talking with one of my favorite writers about one of my favourite topics. Tuning in now!
Enjoying Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed for its suburban mum meets Uncut Gems vibe. Fun, short episodes, great performances (Murray Bartlett is so good). But gotta single out the score, from Wynne Bennett, a producer on Janelle Monae's best stuff. Some of the best techno scoring I've heard in ages.

Never seen a Liberal admit so literally their party is on the same spectrum as One Nation. So here it is I guess, the right admitting that their policies veer into straight up racism. Not sure how moderate Liberal voters can square this.
I'm always keen to hear the latest drug slang but sometimes I get the feeling researchers are getting pranked. Is anyone seriously calling cocaine 'nose beer'?
