This will also affect the PoMS website tomorrow evening. The FIT Count app will still be working but it won't be possible to upload Count results until the maintenance is completed (same will apply to iRecord).
Nasturtiums are a brilliant addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Their bright flowers attract pollinators, and all parts of the plant are edible too. Beautiful, useful, and bee-friendly!

This #WorldBeeDay, we're at the Chelsea Flower Show encouraging wildlife-friendly planting and involvement in citizen science 🐝
With your help we're gathering data on flower-visiting insects.

On reflection of the extreme heat in most parts of the UK, please do put your own safety first when planning and carrying out PoMS surveys. We’re aware the terrain on some squares can be quite demanding!
June is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by more of our rare and less common species 💛
👑 This month, most of these rare and less common queens will produce their first daughters – the workers 💼
🎱 For the Big Eight, many queens and workers will be joined by new males 🚹
Lots of fresh male bumblebees visiting my garden Salvia on today’s @pomscheme.bsky.social FIT Count (moving too fast to photograph!) but also a couple of small solitary bees and a lovely ladybird that I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been doing the count 😊
These patches of Oxeye Daisy are almost completely self-seeded on my lawn and now perfect height for a standing #FITCount! Had a few nice solitary bees and hoverflies in amongst the pollen beetles (classed as small insects <3mm) in today’s count @pomscheme.bsky.social
Great to see @whitmuir1.bsky.social out on their @pomscheme.bsky.social 1km square survey for May 👏 We’d love to see more images from volunteers, given the long awaited sunshine ☀️🐝 Which insects are active in your square?!
