On different occasions, I have been accused of being arrogant, unrealistic, and not inclusive because of this common sense perspective.
At a university of all places!
Absolutely!
And as @olivia.science et al. wrote in this open letter: openletter.earth/open-letter-...
Yes. It's not helpful at all, in any way. And also I've spent a great deal of time in meetings with various high-ups explaining what a disaster it is for research integrity. And we're going to have to spend even more time explaining to students that it's damaging.
This 2nd point feels like derailment from the ethical focus, but: large economic bubbles are harmful, especially when propped up and bailed out by government spending. When it's finally clear there's no reason for the Fortune 500 firms to commit 10 figure annual sums, the collapse will be dangerous.
fellas is it gatekeeping to expect that people know what they're doing
I'm finding it really difficult now that Copilot and other AI options are appearing everywhere in our work apps/systems. It's actually slowing me down and making it harder for me to do the work I need to do. 😞
I've been trying to explain to our lot that using Copilot to "support" neurodivergence is fundamentally ableist but nobody is listening except the excellent @pkwalkersharpe.bsky.social (not that she needed that explaining - she's the expert in disability rights). Thank you for continuing to speak up
