And my wife informed me this morning that El Santo and El Enmascarado were used interchangeably IRL.

Fuck it. El Santo liveposting time. Funnily enough, they start this movie off with El Santo on the run from three guys in suits. One attacks him with a chain, but stupidly throws it at him instead of swinging it.
Even so, El Santo is taking a bit of a beating.

Watching what is (more or less) the first El Santo movie, "El Santo vs. the Evil Brain."* We were already getting Bacardi product placement of a sort in 1958, apparently.
