Stone #fishweir aka “me” of the #MarshallIslands. Aligned around the outer edge, atoll large groupings of stone V-shaped weirs can be identified. Structurally, the traps come in two distinct forms: a U-shaped & V-shaped, with a round catch area at the eye of the weir. #coastalhistory #4oceans 1/5

Preserved wicker fish trap dating to the Roman period from #Valkenburg, #Netherlands. One of the traps found in wet sites in the region was identified as a Roman site on a major waterway, where a northern branch of the Rhine River flowed into the North Sea. #coastalhistory #4oceans
