My stories often start with a dream, which I extrapolate and refine into a rough plot. After that I outline roughly using The Snowflake Method. I'm primarily a plotter, but I also like to leave things open for a degree of discovery when drafting.

D11. None of these. My story is a grounded time travel adventure so everything the characters encounter are human, in varying shades of monstrousness, or animal. The tech, while advanced enough for time travel, doesn't run to robotics.

I cringe about the first draft of Time's Signature, even more because I asked people to read it. Responses were unsurprisingly mixed. It's been through eight revisions since and now has an offer of publication. Much bad writing was eliminated.

D9. Yes, I'd say so on balance. None of them come off any better for it and in the case of the MC, he comes off considerably worse (though he does get finally get the promotion he's been chasing, but at a pretty high price).
