This kind of design in tech is slop by self-important software engineer nerds who think they know better than others. There’s this drive to make everything in tech easy… remove friction, as they say. But everything worth learning requires “friction”. The difficulty is the point. 1/2

I was tutoring my SIL in some Math. She doesn't have a textbook. She has a fucking app that jumps straight into problems. PEDAGOGICALLY THAT IS LIKE THE FUCKING OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO TEACH MATH TO ENCOURAGE LONG TERM RETENTION I still get fucking angry about it

We replaced textbooks with "ed tech." Half the time my kids need to study for a test, they can't access the information they were taught in class bc it's all fragmented behind various apps. If you want your kids to retain any information, you have to re-teach at home. This is where we are at.
