TODAY: New York City’s entire electric grid just got about 20% more renewable power. That’s because it’s the first day the CHPE transmission project is sending commercial power to New York City's electric grid. 👏👏👏 Lower prices! Less pollution! HUGE!
Famous authors asking you out
Least-cost electrification plans have become more sophisticated. This working paper proposes an integrated regulatory–financial framework. Universal access becomes bankable when planning, regulation and financing are integrated. ceepr.link/4lc8Ysm

Exactly. And regarding shuffling, in the long term if we manage to build a lot of renewables, the valuable part of the hydro will be the storage power capacity (there is already a lot of energy storage capacity), so shuffling of hydro energy should decline as a concern.
Ok thanks I see more of what you mean now! Do agree that cost-minimization has been used normatively, though I think the best examples of it are when such studies retain a positive stance of "if society wants cost-min, here is how".
Not sure I fully understand what you mean. That scientists should turn advocates? As much as I agree with the premise I don't agree with that conclusion. Yeah it's bleak, but there are a few different paths here.
Yes definitely a stronger claim, I agree. About those papers, there are other things that go into picking a scenario beyond genuine beliefs about BAU (nothing nefarious per se but it's a convenient anchor that can obviate the need to sit and think about what the BAU should be).
I do appreciate you bringing this up because the severity of the problem you are pointing to is truly immense and we all have to grapple with it.
On paths, I have been wondering if it's worth reallocating efforts to those pockets of the country where evidence-based decision making still happens to a sufficiently constructive degree?

If those authors did believe in that as a BAU, there is no argument that they should update (and should have a while back).
