There was a lot of talk last year about ending the culture wars and reaching a reasonable accommodation, and what I think those people consistently refuse to understand is that *what the Right wants* is to be at war with the rest of the country. We're seeing what that looks like in the UK now.
There may not actually be a huge debate among Democrats over public policy; there's an emerging consensus re the need for post-Trump structural reforms. The cleavage may turn out to be about whether to mirror Trumpers' "dirtbag" approach to politics, or, instead, promise a moral repair of the nation
