#NowPlaying ELP, "Tarkus". Okay, let's see how far I can get through the ELP discography before I get fed up. This was the first one I bought and it's an album of two halves. The title track is fantastic, the second side less so and "Jeremy Bender" and "Are you ready, Eddy?" are filler.

#NowPlaying ELP, "Pictures at an Exhibition". Always liked this one. Not sure how much the lyrics really add, but the band are on top form here. And the closing "Nut Rocker" has the same kind of vibe as Emerson's mad "Va Pensiero" in Argento's "Inferno."

#NowPlaying Emerson,Lake & Palmer. ELP would eventually fall apart into jaw-dropping self-indulgence, but they didn't really get much wrong in their early years. Their debut is a lot of fun. Plenty of chin-stroking to be done, sure, but it's possibly their most accessible album as well.
Bit of a treat on Radio 3, with Haydn's "The Creation". "And...there...was....LIGHT" will never not be thrilling.
Ah, it’s a lovely Venetian morning!

Fifty years of Max's St Magnus Festival. We've only been the once, and it rained pretty much continuously, but Orkney is a special place. And I was able to shake his hand and say how much I loved his music. "Well, that's jolly nice of you to say so," he replied, and smiled. Cheers Max!
