this does not happen everywhere in the US
it's extremely rare to get a good avocado in, like, a minnesota grocery store, especially not cheap
every avocado i bought while living in minneapolis just pissed me off tbh
i love 'bag of avocados' season
on the left coast every spring you can buy bags of avocados for like five bucks; they're not ripe but there's a bunch of them and you wait a few days and then have a fuckton of avocados you have to eat NOW and it's pretty glorious really
it is of course possible to pay insufficient attention and end up buying a 'bag of old overripe avocados' but you're supposed to be smart enough to avoid that lol
just squish 'em a little, make sure they're not terrible
anyway i ate an entire avocado this evening, half on a dinner sandwich and the other half on a little late night nacho situation and i regret nothing
you try to get them on sandwiches or tacos or into guac but usually end up eating a couple with a spoon over the sink just halved with tajin or lime juice and salt
