I just read this and omg. All Your work is so relevant and rigorous & they clearly didn't do their homework here. It does seem like some folks missed the memo that you are supposed to care about other people and that scientists can do multiple types of research and work. Sending good vibes your way

Something I think is really exciting about this is it’s mostly beaked whales, which are very mysterious because they are very deep-diving and hard to study!
The sheer laziness and stupidity to claim that because I believe academia should serve our communities this somehow lowers my scientific standards. Did they even check the rest of my CV?!?

If you are bitter because today's academia makes you feel irrelevant, it's because you made yourself irrelevant. Time for you to retire.
