#Türkiye: Despite diverse perspectives within our members regarding the news creators, we have taken a major step forward: a motion was anonymously voted during our annual meeting to build bridges to the newsmakers of the future and ensure our ethical 'DNA' is exported to these new platforms.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Journalist Solidarity Centers established by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine with the support of the EFJ, IFJ and UNESCO have supported more than 9,000 Ukrainian and international media workers: a vital infrastructure during wartime.
#Turkey: During our annual meeting, our members voted on several motions, including important ones in support of Turkish journalists facing repression. "You arrived when we needed you most," said Journalists Association Chairman Nazmi Bilgin. 🧵
From #Ankara, EFJ members reiterated solidarity with Ukrainian journalists, risking their lives and unlawfully detained by the Russian Federation, to inform the public and defend the truth. 🧵 @stommedia.bsky.social
Many thanks to the Journalists Association Gazeteciler Cemiyeti Dernegi (GCD) for hosting our annual meeting in #Turkey #Ankara and to our members for joining us at such a critical time for journalists in the world. The fight for media freedom continues.Journalism is a public good !
Among the urgent motions, we called for the withdrawal of charges against Swedish journalist Joakim Medin, who was jailed in Turkey for 51 days for his work. Press Freedom issues in #Serbia, #Kosovo, #Greece, #Estonia, #Poland, #France and the #Czech Republic were also addressed via urgent motions.
