That Scottish AI and games guy... __ Founder of @aiandgames.com Game AI Programmer & Consultant Public speaker, educator, nuisance BAFTA Connect He-Him, PhD -- Weekly Newsletter: aiandgames.com YouTube: youtube.com/@aiandgames
Tommy Thompson
Ultimately it still has a long way to go: there's not enough data, and it's prone to aligning games with film and tv which isn't accurate. All that said it's first time I've read a government document on AI in creative sectors that feels like it actually has the best interests of creatives in mind.
"Everything is an Xbox now please just fuckin take one of them off our hands."
In January the government finally figured out you should work with people in the sectors you're writing about to try and align on policy. The AI 'champion' for Creative Industries is Sally Davies, MD of Abbey Road Studios. So it helps we have someone at based in creative sectors leading this.
Don't need to worry about connecting to LLMs on airport WiFi to 'write' when your work environment is just 8 open txt file tabs in Notepad++ (I find most of my spelling, grammar and logic errors when I try to record it as YouTube narration and I'm like wtf is this?)
Got home yesterday from my last work trip until Develop in July. I'm currently in that middle ground of "man this is cool, we're making it happen, grateful I'm getting to do this" and "fuck this, no more, why do I agree to these things". Just gonna hide in a corner and write for the next month.
Back in April I wrote an issue of @aiandgames.com about the Take Two AI team that was let go and how every gaming news outlet misrepresented the facts. www.aiandgames.com/p/the-take-t... Fortunately @gibiz.bsky.social decided to dig a little deeper to get the real story from @luked.bsky.social.
For this week's @aiandgames.com newsletter, I read the UK government's first report on a proposed 'AI Adoption Plan' for the creative industries, and y’know what, it’s not bad. www.aiandgames.com/p/the-uks-go...
We ended up trending on Japanese game SNS today… which is absolutely madness 😅
Our advisors @aphraella.bsky.social @alanzucconi.com @msiemonsmeier.bsky.social @tommy.aiandgames.com will start reviewing talks once all the submission are done. We are looking forward to seeing what you are building. #GameAI #Conference #TalkSubmission #GameDev
Also, excellent work by @gameinformer.com here. I feel for my colleague being put in a tough spot here, but that's the consequences of corporate using AI. This sort of informed and confronting type of questioning on topics like this is exactly what the press should be doing.
