I'm glad to share what I have learned in my process if you decide you want to (and have energy to) give home automation a swing! Maybe I can save you some of the worst head-pounding
(It's also a fuckwad-and-a-half to set up. All the home automation tools I can find that are actually consumer-empowering also assume one is interested in writing YAML and understanding GitHub to make it so their lights and their switches work together. But it's worth it to me.)
