This is a great resource.
The essay by @27unihted.bsky.social contains action items for scientists and the public - read it. open.substack.com/pub/27unihte...
It’s the Bethesda Declaration’s birthday — to mark the occasion, 73 NIHers have a report outlining ongoing concerns, which have become “more insidious and systematized, but no less harmful” as @jenna-m-norton.bsky.social put it www.statnews.com/2026/06/09/n...
Today is the 1 year anniversary of the Bethesda Declaration (I'm proud to have signed) On June 9 2025, a group of over 300 current &former NIH workers sent a letter to Dr. Bhattacharya expressing deep concerns about the ways he was harming the NIH Current/former staff now report ongoing harms 👇
Thanks so much for talking about this!
One year ago today, 300+ NIH scientists and staff risked their livelihoods by signing the Bethesda Declaration to call out government leadership for harms to science and patients... ...today, their new report documents continuing harm to science and the American public. www.27unihted.org/bd-home
Just say NO to theft of American tax $ & the undoing of our democracy via fascist accounting practices. The great @elizabethginexi.bsky.social explains how. Thanks to @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social & @27unihted.bsky.social for fighting for science, health, & what truly makes America great 🇺🇸
My quote of the day Bethesda Declaration (June 9, 2025)
Compelling analysis & want to flag one theme: *in-person review* There are many reasons to utilize virtual review, but, there is a real cost, one that has been under-indexed in an age of attacks on science, in that it "erodes the engagement and investment of the community in the review process" 🧵

In a report published on the first anniversary of the Bethesda Declaration, 71 staffers write that they feel NIH leadership “largely ignored" their concerns

Vought won't stop with NIH and CDC grants. He's coming for trillions.
NIH staffers published a letter of dissent a year ago. They feel it’s been ignored

Despite some benefits, use of virtual review panels ensures that scientists do not travel in & around DC and see, with their own eyes, what this administration has done to staff, institutional morale, and even the physical headquarters of independent federal agencies. Reflections & an alternative.

We published an article written by a number of current and former peer review workers in their personal capacities outlining the changes to peer review at the NIH over the last 18 months. It’s a great resource, and we’re grateful to the authors who wrote it! open.substack.com/pub/27unihte...
New report from the Bethesda Declaration team, taking stock after a year. www.27unihted.org/bethesda-dec... 1/3

A post that explores steps to confront a key flaw of virtual review that has been under-indexed in an age of attacks on science – ceding power through isolation.
